Malaysian riders out to maintain supremacy at Suzuka
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian riders will be hoping to maintain their supremacy in the 35th edition of the Suzuka Endurance Road Race in Japan tomorrow.
Last year, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman and Mohd Emir Firdaus Hasan made headlines when they became the first Malaysians to win the 4-hour race at the Suzuka Circuit.
This time around, Azlan will have Chojun Kameya and Makoto Tamada for company under the Honda Team Asia banner and they will compete in the 8-hour endurance race while Mohd Emir and newcomer Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi will defend the team’s honours in the 4-hour race.
Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd director, chief marketing and sales officer Tan Hui Jing said the championship promises an exciting challenge with a top field of riders, including from Japan.
“Last year was a great outing for Azlan and Mohd Emir when they won the 4-hour endurance race.
“The exposure gained contributed a lot to their performance in last year’s Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC) when Azlan finished second overall in the SuperSports 600cc class.
“We hope to achieve similar success with another good run by our riders in Suzuka this weekend,” said Hui Jing.
