German Platt to defend his LIMBC title
PETALING JAYA: German rider Karl Platt has confirmed his defence of the title in the Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge (LIMBC) in Langkawi from Oct 15-20.
After conquering the course in style, bagging three stages en route to the general classification win last year, Platt is eager to put his determination to test at the much tougher course this year.
“The LIMBC was an awesome experience for me last year.
“Winning the general classification made for a perfect ending to my season and I even had time to enjoy the beauty of the island a bit,” said Platt.
“I’m excited to see the new route and, after my success last year, I’m surely not only coming back to just participate.”
The four-time winner of the Cape Epic in South Africa and seven-time titlist of the notorious TransAlp from Germany to Italy, is currently ranked ninth in the UCI MTB Marathon Series.
LIMBC organiser and chief executive officer of Human Voyage Sdn Bhd, Datuk Malik Mydin is delighted to have Platt back for the third edition.
“He showed himself to be a true champion at LIMBC 2011 against the tough competition in the form of top mountain bike cross-country star Burry Stander (current world No. 4),” said Malik.
The RM400,000 event, which has been upgraded to a Class Two event by the UCI this year, kicks off with a 2.4km prologue on Oct 15.
World Championships silver medallist Nathalie Schneitter of Switzerland emerged as the women’s champion last year.
