KUALA LUMPUR: Airil Rizman Zahari shot a final round of three-over 75 but it was still enough for him to win the RM125,000 PGM Northport Templer Park Classic at the Templar Park Country Club.

His four-day score of eight-under 280 saw him clinch his third win on the PGM Tour this season, following similar success in the PGM Perlis Classic and PGM-PNB Lanjut Classic just before the fasting month.

On a wind-affected day, Airil began the day six shots ahead of Nicholas Fung and 10 ahead of Kemarol Baharin.

After dropping shots at the par-five fifth and seventh holes, it got worse for Airil as the wind continued to play havoc.

Airil’s tee-off at the eighth saw the ball landing in the front bunker and he needed two shots to get it out, finishing the hole with a double bogey.

But he managed to card a birdie on the 16th before holding off a challenge by Nicholas to win the title by five strokes as the rest of the field also struggled with the wind.

Nicholas finished second with a total score of 285 and Kemarol third with 288.

“I am quite surprised with my form. I hope it stays this way because I am really looking forward to the CIMB qualifying,” said the Perlis-born Airil.

Nicholas attributed the loss to poor putting.

“I am struggling with my putting ... I am even missing some short ones as well. I must rectify this as soon as possible,” he said.
