Nafiizwan’s career gets financial boost from CIMB
KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 2 Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan’s squash career has been given a financial boost, thanks to a one-year sponsorship deal with CIMB.
The 26-year-old Nafiizwan, who is ranked 33rd in the world, joins Malaysian squash queen Nicol David and veteran Ong Beng Hee under CIMB’s stable.
The sponsorship will come in handy for the Terengganu-born Nafiizwan for his overall training expenses and international tournaments.
This could well be what reigning Asian champion Nafiizwan needs to continue climbing up the rankings and prove that he is a worthy successor to former national No. 1 Mohd Azlan Iskandar, who retired earlier this month.
“I’m really happy to receive this sponsorship from CIMB because it is what I need in my career right now,” said Nafiizwan yesterday.
“What is important now is that I continue to train hard and smart to produce good results. In terms of rankings, my immediate goal for this year is to try and break into the top 24.
“With this sponsorship, I can now compete in more tournaments, especially the bigger ones that offer more ranking points.”
CIMB Investment Bank chief executive officer Datuk Charon Wardini Mokhzani said they chose Nafiizwan because of his potential to become a top player.
“From his track record, Nafiizwan has shown great potential and is certainly the squash player to look out for. We are also impressed with his rigorous training regime and ambition to break into the top 10,” he said.
