Zulfahmi looking for points at San Marino
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Moto3 rider Mohd Zulfahmi Khairuddin is determined to fight for more points when the championships shift to the Misano track in San Marino tomorrow.
However, after crashing out in the last race at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic last month, Zulfahmi is not about to throw caution to the wind.
It was only the second time this season that Zulfahmi had crashed out of a race. The first one was at the Le Mans circuit in May.
With 76 points in hand after 11 rounds of racing, the AirAsia-SIC-Ajo rider is seventh in the championship standings.
Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Sandro Cortese leads the standings with 200 points, followed by Maveric Vinales (Blusens Avintia) with 168. Luis Salom (Kalex KTM) sits third with 149 points.
“The aim this season is to finish mid-table and possibly reach the top five. I’m glad that I did not suffer any injuries at Brno,” said Zulfahmi.
“Hopefully my machine will be in good condition for the race on Sunday. Barring any technical difficulties, I’m confident I can fight for more points this weekend.”
After the race in San Marino, Zulfahmi will have another two races in Spain (Sept 30) and Japan (Oct 14) before heading home for the Malaysian Grand Prix (Oct 21).
