Ahmad shifts his priorities to Kluang
PETALING JAYA: A yo-yo performance in the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships has prompted Ahmad Afif Amran to shelve his goals this season and focus solely on Round 7 in Kluang from Sept 22-23.
The CKJ Yamaha Racing youngster has only had two podium finishes – in Terengganu (Round 2) and Muar (Round 6). He either didn’t finish or didn’t qualify for the remaining legs.
The 17-year-old’s form in the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), however, is much better.
He finished four out the six Underbone 115cc races in the top five and scored two podium finishes in Zhuhai (Round 3) and Japan (Round 4).
“I don’t want to think about finishing in the top-five this season. I believe it’s too late given my inconsistency. From now on my focus is to take it one race at a time and try to finish in the highest possible position,” said Afif.
Shahril Izzuwan Mohd Noor (Petronas Syntium Moto Yamaha AHM) leads the CP115 standings with 91 points, followed by Apido Yamaha Boon Kui’s Ahmad Abdul Kadir (84) and Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing’s Mohd Amirul Ariff Musa (82).
