Sabah Eagles bag second Jonah Jones crown

PETALING JAYA: Sabah Eagles turned on the heat in the second half to beat NS Wanderers 24-19 to clinch their second Guinness Jonah Jones Rugby Sevens crown at the Royal Selangor Club (RSC) Sports Annexe in Bukit Kiara yesterday.
The Eagles started the match aggressively with Aporosa Duwale making a try but it was Wanderers who ended the first half with a 12-5 lead through Iwane Tokesilili’s two tries and a conversion.
The Eagles, who won the title under the name Borneo Eagles in 2008, changed their game plan in the second half and it worked wonders as they equalised with Viliame Veto’s try and conversion.
The nippy Duwale put Eagles in front with a try to lead 17-12 before Waisea Nasekai extended their lead with a try and conversion to make it 24-12.

Hong Kong Dragons defeated SSTMI Express 38-17 to win the club title.
SSTMI Panthers beat UPNM Smookies 19-5 in the Colt finals while RSC Dingoes won the women’s category by thrashing Mandingoes 31-5.
