Fujiwara smashes lap record during practice
PETALING JAYA: Round Four of the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) got off with record-breaking practice sessions in the SuperSports 600cc and Underbone 115cc categories at the Autopolis International Circuit in Japan yesterday,
Local ace Katsuaki Fujiwara (Manual Tech Beet Kawasaki Racing) led the way in the 600cc group, erasing the lap record of 1:57.534 he set last year with a lightning quick time of 1:54.933.
Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing’s Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman set the second fastest time of 1:55.369 while Yuki Ito (Petronas Syntium Moto Yamaha) came in third in 1:55.834.
“We had a really good start being among 11 riders to exceed last year’s practice record and we also managed to test the bikes under wet and dry conditions,” said Azlan.
“Fujiwara is almost half a second faster so we really need to work harder to bridge the gap. I will try to fight for pole position but it will be very challenging because this is Fujiwara’s home track and there are a lot of talented wildcards who can make the front row.”
In the Underbone 115cc, Indonesian speedster Hadi Wijaya (Yamaha Yamalube KYT R9 Tungga Jaya) blitzed the track to break his own lap time of 1:32.443 set last year.
The 2010 Underbone champion clocked 1:30.839 to finish ahead of Malaysia’s Mohd Amirul Ariff Musa (Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing) who had a time of 1:31.124.
Malaysia’s Norizman Ismail of Harian Metro Y-Teq SCK Honda Racing was third fastest in 1:31.255.
