Nicholas and Eng Seng lead the way for locals with identical par 72
SHAH ALAM: Malaysia’s Lim Eng Seng and Nicholas Fung carded identical even-par 72 in the third round to be the best local finishers with a similar total of two-under 214.
They are bunched with 10 others in 35th position going into today’s final round.
Danny Chia and amateur Able Tam, with a three-day total of 215, are a stroke behind.
Airil Rizman Zahari and another amateur, Low Khai Jea, are another stroke further adrift while the remaining Malaysian, Shaaban Hussin, is in 65th spot with a three-day total of 218.
Nicholas blamed fatigue in the second half of the third round for his poor score.
“I carded four birdies in the first nine holes and just one bogey. But I was a little tired in the second nine. I had a double bogey on the11th, which is the easiest hole on the course. I hit my tee shot into the jungle and lost two shots,” he said, hoping to make up for it in the final round today.
“I need to shoot a low round on the final day.”
Malaysia’s top pro Danny said that he didn’t do anything differently yesterday compared to the first two days.
“It was pretty much touch-and-go for me. There were a lot of birdies and bogeys. I had some good shots and some bad ones as well all week,” he said.
“My putting is not too bad although I read some bad lines. But generally I am happy with my putting. There is still room for improvement.”
Able, who fired a hole-in-one in the second round, scored a one-under-71 to share 45th position with Danny.
