Korean Open: Chong Wei through to final, Koo-Tan fall in semis
KUALA LUMPUR: World No 1 Lee Chong Wei coolly checked into the men’s singles final of the US$1mil Korean Open badminton championships in Seoul on Saturday.
The top seed showed his class with a 21-11, 21-18 win over Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki in just 34 minutes.
Chong Wei will take on Du Pengyu of China in the final on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Pengyu booked his place in the final in commanding form, defeating Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia 21-12, 21-17.
Last month, the 30-year-old Chong Wei went down to Pengyu in the BWF World Super Series Finals in Shenzhen before withdrawing from the tournament with a thigh injury.
Meanwhile, the national top doubles pairing of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong failed to make it a double joy for Malaysia, when they were crushed 17-21, 11-21 by Korean duo Ko Sung-hyun-Lee Yong-dae in a semi-final clash that lasted 45 minutes.
