Divers lead the way for Malaysia’s AYOF squad
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will send 76 athletes to compete in six sports in the Australian Olympic Youth Festival (AYOF) in Sydney from Jan 16-20.
The bulk of the contingent left for Sydney on Sunday. Malaysia will be competing in badminton, cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, diving, shooting and hockey.
A total of 1,700 athletes from 30 countries are contesting in the 17-sport AYOF.
Despite competing in fewer events this time, there are high hopes on the Malaysian contingent improving on their previous haul of four golds, three silvers and three bronzes achieved in 2009.
Malaysia are again banking on the divers to deliver the goods like they did in the last three AYOFs.
The divers bagged one silver and three bronzes in 2009.
