Maybank Malaysian Open: Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying make it to the final
By KNG ZHENG GUAN
KUALA LUMPUR: World No.3 Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying created history by marching into the final of the Maybank Malaysian Open at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
It was however a far from easy match for the top seeds, who were once again made to go the distance by Poland's Robert Mateusiak-Nadiezda Zieba before winning 12-21, 21-18, 21-16.
The tense first game saw Peng Soon-Liu Ying committing for too many unforced errors that allowed their Polish opponents to storm forward to take the first game.
It was a much closer affair in the second although Peng Soon-Liu Ying were staring at a possible defeat after trailing 14-16 at one point.
But they rallied and turned the game around and took control in the third game to proceed into the final.
This feat made them the first Malaysian pair to enter the final of the Malaysian Open and Peng Soon-Liu Ying will be hungry to add to their Japan Open title from last year.
They will, however, have tough time as they will either face Denmark's Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen or Indonesian qualifiers Praveen Jordan-Vita Marissa.
