KUALA LUMPUR: Country's top mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying failed to end a 50-year wait for a mixed doubles title when they went down in the final at Maybank Malaysian Open at Putra Stadium on Sunday.
Spurred on by a vociferous crowd, the top seeds put up a spirited display but it was not good enough as they went down 21-13, 21-18 to Denmark's Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen in 45 minutes
The Malaysian duo however can walk with their heads high.
It was their best performance in the Malaysian Open Super Series as they had never reached the final before.
