SSTMI Jr edge BJSS to send former champs to bottom of table
KUALA LUMPUR: Former champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) were sent to the bottom of Division One of the MHC-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL) after their fifth successive defeat yesterday.
Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Juniors, who started the match at the basement of the eight-team league, shot up to sixth after a 1-0 win at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru.
Aliff Syazwan was the hero for SSTMI Juniors, scoring the winning goal via a penalty corner in the 48th minute.
A winner of 11 titles in the league, BJSS now face face a fight to avoid relegation. The bottom two teams from Division One will be demoted next year.
BJSS coach S. Prakash said there was improvement in their play and they had better chances than SSTMI Juniors.
“It is not as if we did not have chances to get the goals. They had one penalty corner and they scored. We just kept missing at our end,” said Prakash.
“It is really going to be tough for us. We just have two more matches to play to try and salvage our season. The fixtures are just crazy.
We have completed five matches while some have just played two matches. We now have a long break until Jan 31,” he added.
BJSS’ remaining two matches are against MBI-Anderson and MSS Penang.
