Sivachandran takes charge in third round
PETALING JAYA: S. Sivachandhran is in a good position to claim his second PGM Tour title after carving out a four-stroke lead in the third round of the RM150,000 PGM I&P Kinrara Classic at the Kinrara Golf Club.
His first win was in Air Keroh during the PGM Malacca Classic in 2011.
The 33-year-old shot a one-under 70 in wet and difficult conditions yesterday, taking him to a 10-under 203 total.
But he had some help along the way when an uncharacteristic blip by Danny Chia, who dropped four strokes over the last three holes, proved to be the difference between him and the lead. Danny, Malaysia’s top ranked player for the past few years, finished bogey-bogey-double bogey to slip to six-under 207.
Airil Rizman and Haziq Hamizan staked their claims for the title of the PGM Tour’s first tournament in this season with a four-under and two-under respectively.
Their determined efforts left them tied on four-under 209 alongside Jeremiah Kim, who managed an even-par 71.
Despite his healthy lead, Sivachandran remained cautious as he looked towards the final round.
“I didn’t win on the Tour last year, though I came close. I will take it (the round) as it comes and hopefully it will all come together tomorrow (today),” he said.
“The wet conditions did not help but obviously I was not the only one affected by it as the scores today were not low generally.
“I didn’t strike the ball as well as I could, but I’m still happy to be where I am – four strokes in front.”
