MHC appoint Beng Hai as director of coaching
By S. RAMAGURU
KUALA LUMPUR: Former national coach Tai Beng Hai has been appointed by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) as their director of coaching.
The appointment was made on Saturday following a committee meeting chaired by Datuk Rahim Mohamed Arif in Kuala Lumpur..
Beng Hai, whose contract as national coach expired in December, will take over the post immediately on a full-time basis.
The director of coaching is among the four full-time posts that the MHC are planning to fill in order to streamline their administration.
Former secretary Hashim Mohamed Yusof has been appointed as secretary for the competitions committee, also on a full-time basis.
Said MHC coaching committee chairman Manjit Majid Abdullah: “Beng Hai’s task is to ensure there are quality coaches coming through the ranks. He will be in charge of all aspects of coaching development and will also oversee our efforts to improve the coaching structure at state level.
“It is just not about organising courses and seminars. We want a hands-on director who will go to the states to see what needs to be fixed. Of course, at the end of it, we want a coaching structure to be put in place. We have already planned several coaching courses to be held this year, with at least one Level Three course by June.”
Meanwhile, the coaching committee are on the lookout for coaches to train the women’s senior and junior teams.
“We have decided to advertise for the two jobs. Mohamed Nasihin Nubli is the senior team coach and his contract expires next month. He can re-apply for the job. Both posts will be on a full-time basis as well,” said Manjit, who is also the MHC vice-president.
