Nicol set to blaze another trail of glory
PETALING JAYA: Squash queen Nicol David’s second consecutive World Series Finals triumph is just a foretaste of what Malaysians can expect from her this year.
The 29-year-old Nicol was in irresistable form as she outplayed England’s Laura Massaro 11-3, 11-2, 11-9 in just 37 minutes in the final at The Queen’s Club in London on Sunday.
It was sweet revenge indeed for Nicol, who was surprisingly beaten by Massaro in a group match last Thursday.
“It means a lot to start the year with a good win. Knowing she (Massaro) was playing in front of her home fans, I knew I had to start strongly and not let her feed off the crowd,” said Nicol on

“Instead, I was surprised that I ended up feeding off the crowd!”
Nicol began 2012 in the same vein, winning the World Series title. She went on to collect eight titles from 10 tournaments, including winning the world title for a record seventh time after defeating Massaro in the final in Cayman Islands, last month.
The convincing win on Sunday shows that Nicol is as hungry as ever for more titles.
But, for now, Nicol will take a short break before defending her Cleveland Classic title from Jan 31-Feb 5.
