Ferrer closing in on Nadal for the No. 4 ranking
PARIS: David Ferrer is closing in on Rafael Nadal for the world No. 4 ranking following his run into the semi-finals of the Qatar Open last weekend.
Nadal has been out of action with a knee injury since June and he will be absent once again at the Australian Open later this month.
A good performance from Ferrer in Auckland this week where he is the defending champion and in Melbourne could see him overtake Nadal and become the Spanish No. 1 for the first time in his career.
Novak Djokovic remains comfortably ahead atop the rankings with Roger Federer in second and Andy Murray third.
