Cash rewards await our riders at LTdL thanks to Telekom
KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) have dangled a RM10,000 carrot for Malaysian riders in the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL), which will be held from Feb 21-March 2.
The overall Malaysian champion will receive RM5,000 while the best Malaysian sprinter and best Malaysian climber will get RM2,500 each.
TM chief marketing officer Datuk Rozalila Abdul Rahman hoped the cash rewards would boost the morale of local riders and ignite a healthy competition amongst them.
“This is something new that we’ve introduced and we hope to carry on giving out the rewards in the future,” said Rozalila.
London Olympian Amir Mustafa Rusli, who will be riding for the national team, is all excited about the cash reward.
“In the past, it was hard for us to even compete in the best Asian rider category as teams like Astana of Kazakhstan had strong riders in their line-ups,” he said.
“At least now we can look forward to being active in the peloton as there’s a reward waiting at the end of the day.”
There will be a total of 16 Malaysian riders, representing five different teams, in the LTdL this year.
The race will start in Kangar on Feb 21 and end in Kuala Terengganu on March 3.
