Bowlers full of praise for outgoing secretary
KUALA LUMPUR: National bowlers, led by veteran Shalin Zulkifli, were full of praise for retired Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary Sidney Tung during a special appreciation night to honour him on Thursday.
A number of past and former internationals as well as former and present MTBC officials were on hand to give Sidney a grand farewell.
Said the 34-year-old Shalin: “I have known Sidney since I was 10. We used to see each other at the alley. He is selfless, the first to arrive and the last to leave the bowling centre. Most of us grew up with him.”
Former international Lisa Kwan, a prominent figure in bowling in the late 1980s and early 1990s, said that Sidney made everyone feel at home.
“He was always there when we needed him,” added Lisa.
Esther Cheah, a current international, said she would miss Sidney’s singing prowess.
“He loves to sing Japanese songs during the karaoke sessions. One thing that will always stick in my mind is his dedication. I am sure we will be seeing him around at the alley although he is retired,” said Esther, the World Championships singles gold medallist.
