India lift girls’ team title in Asian Juniors
KUALA LUMPUR: India upset defending champions Hong Kong 2-1 to win the girls’ team title in the 16th Asian Junior squash championships in Seoul yesterday.
Anaka Alankamony eliminated Ho Ka Poh 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 to deliver India’s first point. However, Ho Tse Lok levelled the score at 1-1 with an 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 win over Lakshya Ragavendran.
Aparjitha Balamurukan then turned heroine for India when she notched the winning point with an 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 triumph over Choi Uen Shan.
India, however, failed to retain the boys’ team title after losing 2-0 to arch-rivals Pakistan. It was sweet revenge for Pakistan, who lost by a similar score to India in the final in Colombo, Sri Lanka, two years ago.
