Rain forces play to be halted again at BMW Malaysian Open
KUALA LUMPUR: The BMW Malaysian Open was again at the mercy of the unpredictable Malaysian weather as rain forced play to be halted in the late afternoon yesterday.
Five first-round qualifying singles matches had to be called off on Sunday due to rain.
The matches were brought forward to yesterday and were completed just as the sky turned dark at the Royal Selangor Golf and Country Club (RSGCC).
The three-hour delay yesterday meant that three singles matches in the main draw, including the Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova-Vera Dushevina match and Malaysian Aslina Chua’s against China’s Zhang Shuai, have been postponed to today.
Meanwhile, top seeded qualifier Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand secured her place in the singles main draw after she beat Russia’s Arina Rodionova 6-2, 6-3.
