Nabil tunes up with two podium spots in Bahrain

PETALING JAYA: Nabil Jeffri warmed up for the new season of the German F3 Championships in style by earning two second placings in the opening races of the Formula Middle East Championships in Manama, Bahrain, on Friday.
Nabil has returned to Petronas as he prepares for his debut season in the German F3 Championship and will head to Europe to resume testing soon.
“I’m in Bahrain to compete as a guest driver in the championships. The organisers are using the Formula BMW chassis and Eurointernational, the team that I will stick with for the German F3 series, run the championships.
“I am just taking part to stay in competition mode and keep myself racing-fit.
“It was held at the Formula One circuit and the winner (Emil Bernstoff) is racing in the Formula 3 Euro Series, so I learnt a lot from him at the same time.
“I’m happy with what I managed as I arrived just in time for the third practice session,” said Nabil from Manama yesterday.
Nabil, who finished runner-up in the JK Racing Asia Series Championship late last year, is happy to return to racing under Petronas colours.
“There were uncertainties after I missed out on the JK Racing Asia Series title but I am relieved the deal is closed and I can just focus on getting ready for the championship. This is the first time I’ve won under Petronas colours,” he said.
The 19-year-old will head to Misano, Italy, for private testing on Feb 13 before the official testing in Hockenheim in March.
“I was told I should be doing about 12,000km of testing if I am serious about getting ready and to make my presence felt when the German F3 season starts in April,” he said.
“It’s something else to drive an F3 car compared to the Formula BMW car previously. I was amazed at how fast the car was and you can really feel the downforce.
“I thought I was fit but it’s still not enough with my current condition.”
