MSD Kuala Langat in trouble for failing to turn up

KUALA LUMPUR: Debutants MSD Kuala Langat may land in hot water for failing to turn up for their MHC-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Division Two Group B match against KL Sports School at the Education Ministry Turf in Lembah Pantai on Monday.

The match was supposed to be played on Jan 25 but it was postponed due to a heavy shower and lightning. The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) then rescheduled the match to Monday but MSD Kuala Langat failed to show up.

Under the competitions rules, MSD Kuala Langat now face the possibility of being thrown out of the league and fined RM500.

MSD Kuala Langat team manager Omar Baki said they had informed the MHC competitions committee last week that they could not play on Monday.

“Most of our players are students and they need to attend school. We informed the competitions committee earlier that we can only play league matches on Fridays or on weekends.

“The MHC agreed to our request. I am not sure why they did not change the fixture and play the match on a weekend,” added Omar.

MSD Kuala Langat have 12 points from seven matches and are in the running for a place in the semi-finals.

They will wrap up their fixture against Politeknik-KPT at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Omar said he hoped MHC would not throw them out of the league.

“I hope the competitions committee will understand our plight and allow us to play the match against Politeknik-KPT tomorrow.

“I also hope that they will not take any action against us as we are newcomers,” said Omar.

MHC competitions committee chairman M. Gobinathan said a miscommunication resulted in MSD Kuala Langat failing to turn up for the match.

“I am puzzled that they can play on Wednesday but not on Monday because their players have to attend school too.

“However, we will allow Kuala Langat to complete their fixtures tomorrow. We’ll have a meeting on Thursday to discuss the matter,” said Gobinathan.

“We will hear their side of the story before we decide on their fate,” said Gobinathan.

In 2011, Matri of Perlis were slapped with a suspension and RM500 fine for not turning up for the league match against Bandar Penawar Sports School-Women High Performance Centre (BPSS-WHPC).
