Baljit, Amin and Ismail left out of Sultan Azlan Shah squad
KUALA LUMPUR: Experienced defenders Baljit Singh and Mohd Amin Rahim and forward Ismail Abu have been left out of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup squad.
However the trio, along with Amir Farid and Norhizzat Sumantri, can still vie for the two remaining spots which have been left vacant by coach Paul Revington, when he named the team for the March 9-17 Ipoh tournament.
These two slots will be filled after the two friendlies against New Zealand in Malacca on March 4 and 5.
Goalkeeper S. Kumar and forward Faizal Saari are back in the team after their playing stints in the Indian Hockey League.
Nabil Fiqri Mohd Nor, who has only just recovered from an injury, is also in the team.
Hosts Malaysia will be up against India, Pakistan, South Korea, Australia and defending champions New Zealand in the 22nd edition of the tournament.
The Ipoh meet will be the first big tournament for Revington on Malaysian soil.
For the record, Malaysia finished sixth out of seven teams last year after losing 3-2 to South Korea in the fifth-sixth placing match.
Malaysia will start this year’s campaign against South Korea on March 9.
