Dragons bounce back to hammer Slingers
By KNG ZHENG GUAN
KUALA LUMPUR: Westports Malaysia Dragons recovered from last week’s heartbreak to stroll to a 75-56 win over Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers in the Asean Basketball League at the Maba Stadium yesterday.
The Dragons, who were beaten 77-66 by San Miguel Beermen last Saturday, now move up a rung to third with five wins and five defeats while the Slingers dropped to fourth with a 4-5 record.
Sammy Monroe, who had an off-day against the Beermen, led the Dragons with 29 points.
Centre Gavin Edwards also played a crucial role with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Patrick Cabahug had 10 points.
The key factor in the Dragons’ win was conceding less turnovers, just 17 compared to the Slingers’ 28. They also outscored the Slingers in points from turnovers, with a total of 23 points compared to just six from the Slingers.
The Slingers responded through Rashad Jennings, who had 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Donald Dulay scored 12 points.
