Hasli fired up for Ally Ong tourney after fine show in Kuwait

PETALING JAYA: After a rather quiet 2012, national shooter Hasli Izwan Amir Hasan is back in the groove and feeling like a well-oiled machine after posting a string of good performances this year.
Fresh from winning the silver in the 25m rapid fire pistol at the H.H. The Amir of Kuwait Grand Prix in Kuwait City last week, Hasli is now setting his sights firmly on the National Shooting Association of Malaysia’s Ally T.H. Ong Trophy, which begins at the Subang Shooting Range on Thursday.
“Winning the silver in Kuwait is a great feeling as it was my first international competition for more than a year. My last international competition was the Olympic qualifiers in January 2012, so I feel like I’m getting back my top form and raring to go,” said Hasli, who was a double gold medallist in the 25m rapid fire pistol and 25m centre fire pistol at the Selangor Shooting Championships in February.
The 36-year-old is no stranger to the Ally T.H.Ong Trophy, having competed in the event since 1994. He will be competing in three events – the 25m rapid fire pistol, 25m standard pistol and 25m centre fire pistol.
Hasli, a gold medallist at the 2005 Manila SEA Games, is keen on improving his personal best scores to get a place in the Malaysian team for the ISSF World Cup Rifle-Pistol Championships in Changwon, South Korea, in April.
“I’ve a good start to the year so I really fancy my chances on improving my personal best,” said Hasli, who has a personal best of 584 for the 25m rapid fire pistol, 572 for the 25m standard pistol and 585 for the 25m centre fire pistol.
At the Ally T.H.Ong Trophy last year, Hasli won two golds (25m centre fire pistol and 50m pistol) and a silver in the 25m rapid fire pistol.
