Axiata Cup lure for 25 kids
KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-five children will get the chance to feel the excitement of playing in the prestigious Axiata Cup in Kuala Lumpur from April 13-14.
The children, from 10 to 15-year-olds, will be selected from the Axiata Cup AEON Youth Challenge. There are three regional qualifiers – in Kuala Lumpur (March 17), Johor Baru (March 24) and Penang (March 30). The 25 winners from the qualifiers will receive an all expense-paid trip to play in the in the curtain raiser at the Axiata Cup as well as being trained by Olympic silver medallist Cheah Soon Kit (pic).
“I have to praise this effort by Aeon to help the development of badminton at the grassroots level,” said Soon Kit, who was appointed the ambassador at the launch of the Axiata Cup AEON Youth Challenge yesterday.
“It’s a good move and I’ll be happy if we can produce talent from this programme,” added Soon Kit.
Education Ministry deputy director-general Sufaat Tumin, who was also present at the launch, welcomed AEON Company’s (M) efforts to co-host the Axiata Cup AEON Youth Challenge.
“I have to laud the organisers’ efforts to help out in the grassroots development of sports in the country,” said Sufaat.
