Squash: Ashour bounces back to clinch his third title of the season
PETALING JAYA: World No. 1 Ramy Ashour of Egypt bounced back from an opening set loss to clinch his third title of the year at the Kuwait PSA Cup squash championship in Kuwait City on Thursday.
The two-time world champion, winner of the Tournament of Champions and the North American Open, defeated world No. 4 James Wilstrop of England 6-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-3 in the final.
“It was a hell of a match. James is a tough opponent and a great player with great spirit and character,” said Ashour on www.squashsite.co.uk. “I’m also quite proud to win for a third time here in Kuwait, especially in front of such a passionate crowd and a legend like Jahangir Khan (of Pakistan).
“This has been a fantastic tournament. And hopefully in two months’ time, they (the International Olympic Committee) will have that big meeting to decide if squash is accepted in the Olympics.
“I just hope then that squash will be where it belongs,” added the 25-year-old Ashour.
