Flight delay keeps Baun out of two ties
SURABAYA: All-England champion Tine Baun’s (pic) flight has been delayed and she will miss the Europe All Stars’ first two matches in the Axiata Cup on Saturday.
The 33-year-old Baun, fresh from her All-England triumph, was supposed to arrive yesterday, but was unable to make it on time.
That means Baun, who also announced her departure from professional badminton following her success in Birmingham, will miss the matches against Singapore and Vietnam but will be available to play against Asia All Stars and Malaysia.
Team manager Martijn van Dooramalen is not too worried over Baun’s absence.
“Most of my players flew in late and it is safe to say that Tine will only play the last two matches,” said Dooramalen.
“But I’ll still have a team to put out against Singapore and in the worse case scenario, I’ll just take to the courts myself,” joked the Dutchman.
In Baun’s absence, 20-year-old Carolina Marin will take her place against Singapore today and will face either world No. 22 Juan Gu or world No. 44 Xing Aiying.
