Malaysia to host two legs of ISTAF series
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will host the opening and the final legs of the 2nd International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) Super Series this year.
The opening leg of the ISTAF Super Series 2013 has been tentatively scheduled from May 16-19 in Negri Sembilan and the men’s and women’s Finals from Oct 31-Nov 3 in Sabah.
Thailand will host the second leg of the Super Series (June 26-29) and India the third leg (Aug 27-Sept 1).
ISTAF secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Kader said Malaysia’s bid to host both the legs, however, was subject to “fulfilling the technical requirements” set by the international body.
Abdul Halim made the announcement at a press conference after a two-day ISTAF workshop held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. UFA Sports Asia managing mirector Jeff Chue and Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association president Datuk Ahmad Ismail were among those present at the press conference.
The workshop, hosted by UFA Sports Asia, ISTAF’s global commercial and development partner and one of the world’s leading sports marketing agencies, represents a summit meeting to assess the successful inaugural ISTAF Super Series held last year. Participants from Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Brunei, the Philippines, India, United States, Myanmar, China and Iran, took part in the workshop.
