Dragons back in fiery form to slay Slingers
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Dragons bounced back in style to easily beat the Singapore Slingers 93-63 in their Asean Basketball League (ABL) match at the MABA Stadium yesterday.
The Dragons firmly put their defeat to Indonesia Warriors last week behind them as a stellar Gavin Edwards scored 23 points and eight rebounds to help the Malaysian side clinch their seventh win of the season.
Justin Melton scored 18 points while Marcus Hubbard added 17 for the Dragons who’s high scoring 30 points to the Slingers’ 19 in first quarter ensured that the latter were forced to play catch-up throughout the game.
Donald Rashaad’s 25 points and 11 rebounds however was not enough to lift the Slingers as missed free-throws and a costly pass turnover cost the Slingers dearly as they slumped to their fifth straight league defeat.
The win kept Dragons’ coach Ariel Vanguardia’s side third in the standings with 54 points behind leaders Warriors (75) and second-placed Beermen (73). Slingers dropped from fourth to fifth with 33 points leaving them behind Thailand Slammers who play the Warriors on Wednesday.
The Dragons will host the Saigon Heat next Friday while the Slingers will meet the Beermen at the Singapore Indoor Stadium tomorrow.
