Top junior Joo Ven eases into quarter-finals in Holland
PETALING JAYA: Top junior shuttler Soong Joo Ven stayed on track for his first title of the year after easing into the quarter-finals of the Dutch Junior International in Haarlem yesterday.
Top seed Joo Ven barely broke sweat en route to crushing Finland’s Iikka Heino 21-15, 21-12 for a quarter-final date with Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man.
Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei is also through to the quarter-finals – thanks to Lady Luck.
The unseeded June Wei, who needed three games to beat local lad Mark Caljouw in the third round on Friday, had an easier ride in the fourth round when his opponent – Frances Pierrick Cajot – retired with an injury with the score tied at 18-all in the first game.
In women’s singles, Ho Yen Mei continued to show her talent by defeating France’s Anne Tran 21-17, 24-22 in the fourth round.
Yen Mei, seeded joint ninth-16th, faces Belgian Flore Vandenhoucke in the quarter-finals.
