Chen Long storms into German Open final
PETALING JAYA: World No. 2 Chen Long easily reached the men’s singles final of the German Open GP Gold badminton championships in Mulheim on Saturday.
The 24-year-old proved too strong for compatriot Qiao Bin, strolling to a 21-8, 21-16. He will face Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the final. Tommy defeated Thai Boonsak Ponsana 21-19, 21-12 in the other semi-final.
China are also guaranteed of the men’s doubles title after scratch pair Chai Biao-Hong Wei eliminated third seeds Kim Ki-jung-Kim Sa-rang of South Korea 15-21, 21-19, 21-13.
They will face compatriots Qiu Zihan-Liu Xiaolong for the title.
In the women’s singles, Juliane Schenk kept the home interest alive after beating Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi 21-17, 21-19 to set up a final date with second seed Wang Yihan of China.
