WOMAN singles shuttler Sannatasah Saniru has followed in the footsteps of her brother, Vountus Indra Mawan, by quitting the national team.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Ng Chin Chai confirmed yesterday that Sannatasah had handed in her resignation letter, citing the lack of any significant results of late.

“She has resigned from the national team and we’ve accepted it. There are six others in the women’s singles department and we need to look into improving their standards. This is our weakest department,” said Chin Chai, who is in Birmingham as the team manager.

Besides Sannatasah, two other women’s singles shuttlers also left this January. Florah Ng quit to further her studies while Ng Sin Er retired due to injuries.

Sannatasah had also stated in her letter that there had been no improvement in her game because she did not get as many opportunities as the others to compete.

Vountus had also left the national team last year citing the same reason. He felt that the coaches only selected those they liked while sidelining the others.

For the record, those still in the national women’s singles squad under coach Wong Tat Meng are Tee Jing Yi, Lydia Cheah, Sonia Cheah, Yang Li Lian, Lim Yin Fun and Lim Chiew Sien.
