Blake lines up Doha meet date in May
PARIS: Jamaica’s world 100m champion Yohan Blake is to get his bid to defend his crown later this year under way at the opening Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 10.
The 23-year-old – who took silver behind compatriot Usain Bolt in last year’s 100m Olympic final – said he was intending to run the fastest time yet recorded on the traditionally fast Qatari track.
Olusoji Fasuba holds the present record of 9.85 set in 2006.
“I have heard talk of the fast track at Doha ...,” he said on the International Association of Athletics Federations website.
“I am presently the second fastest man in the world.
“My ambition is to become the best. I have to continue to work very hard for that. Anything is possible.”
Blake, who with American Tyson Gay is joint second fastest man of all-time with 9.69 behind Bolt on 9.58, will defend his world crown in Moscow which run from Aug 10-18.
Bolt conceded his world title to Blake in Daegu in 2011 after he was disqualified when he false started in the final. — AFP
