Shariffuddin over the moon after selection to 600cc
PETALING JAYA: Mohd Shariffudin Shamsud–din has moved a step closer towards realising his dreams after being selected to ride in Round Two of the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia this weekend.
“Moving up to full-frame bikes is a dream come true. It’s a huge career boost and I intend to make full use of this opportunity to gain new experiences. I’m thankful to the team for trusting me,” said Shariffudin.
The CP115 rider was drafted to compete in the SuperSports 600cc class as a stand-in for Mohd Farid Badrul Hisham, who is out injured. An excited Shariffudin had attended a private test session held by Petronas Hong Leong Yamaha team at the Sepang International Circuit last week where the 21-year old got his first taste riding the YZF-R6.
“I’m excited about my SuperSports 600cc debut. I intend to continue familiarising myself with the bike and try to reduce the gap on the field. That’s the best we can hope for given the short time we’ve had to prepare,” he said of his expectations in Indonesia.
Team co-ordinator Melvin Tan explained that Shariffudin’s appointment was made in line with Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia’s (HLYM) long-term plan to create the next generation of SuperSports 600cc riders.
