19 schools closed amid flooding in southern Myanmar

YANGON: Nineteen schools in Pandaung township located in southern Myanmar's Bago region have been closed due to the rising water level of Ayeyarwady River, state-run Myanmar Alinn Daily reported on Thursday (July 18).

There are 160 schools, including high schools, middle schools, and primary schools in Pandaung township, the report said.

Of these, 19 schools in low-lying areas have been temporarily closed due to flooding from the river, starting on July 16.

These 19 schools have 2,864 students and 207 teachers.

According to the report, once the river levels recede, the schools will reopen, and efforts will be made to ensure that students catch up on missed lessons. - Xinhua/ANN
