Travel package tickets for Coldplay’s Hong Kong shows snapped up on Klook within 10 minutes


Fans and overseas visitors have scrambled for Coldplay’s coming shows in Hong Kong on the second day of sales, with tickets on a partner travel platform sold out in just 10 minutes.

A majority of Tuesday’s ticket sales, which began at 10am, were expected to be customers from overseas, as the concert passes had to be bought in pairs and as part of a package including one- or two-night hotel stays.

A check by the Post found there were around 1,500 users in the virtual waiting room of the travel platform Klook as soon as the clock struck 10am. Within minutes, that number had jumped to over 30,000.

Once they made it to the purchasing page, customers were directed to choose which day’s concert tickets they wished to buy, pick a hotel, and decide if they wanted to stay for one or two nights.

They were also required to provide names according to passports for the ticket purchases and hotel stays.

By 10.08am, the Post found all hotel options were no longer available, indicating they had been sold out.

The Post has reached out to Klook on the exact number of tickets sold on Tuesday.

The British rock band are set to play three shows next year on April 9, 11 and 12 during the Hong Kong stop of their Asian tour, which also includes Abu Dhabi, Mumbai and Seoul.

They will be one of the first acts to perform at the soon-to-open Kai Tak Sports Park’s main stadium, which has a capacity of up to 65,000 when the standing pitch area is included for concert use.

Klook was selling “Experience Packages” available for purchase on a first come, first served basis for 24 hours from 10am on Tuesday.

The packages were being offered in two prices ranges.

Three- to four-star hotel packages started from US$332 with a list of 27 hotels to choose from, including Regal Hong Kong in Causeway Bay, Harbour Plaza Resort City in Tin Shui Wai, and Silka Tsuen Wan.

A four- to five-star package starting at US$625 was also available from a list of 39 hotels such as Rosewood Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental and Island Shangri La.

The four-stage ticket sales for Hong Kong shows began at 10am on Monday, when Coldplay launched an artist presale for fans who had previously signed up on the band’s website.

Those had also been snapped up within minutes, but quickly reappeared on platforms such as Facebook and Carousell at inflated rates several times the official price.

A presale for members of local promoter Live Nation⁠ will take place on Wednesday from 11am to 11.59pm, while general sales will begin on October 10.
