BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Heavy rainfall on Thursday (Nov 28) evening caused flash floods along parts of the Tutong Highway, leading to significant traffic congestion for commuters travelling towards Bandar Seri Begawan.
The floods, which submerged sections of the highway, resulted in traffic jams that lasted until past 11pm.
The downpour, which began around 7pm, also triggered flash floods in several areas across the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts, further adding to the disruption.
In a press release earlier this week, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department had warned of active weather conditions from Nov 27 to 30.
The forecast included heavy and occasionally thundery showers affecting inland areas in the afternoon, spreading to coastal and sea regions at night and potentially persisting into the early morning. Wind speeds during heavy or gusty showers could reach up to 45 km/h.
The country is currently experiencing the first half of the Northeast Monsoon season, which is typically associated with unstable weather patterns. These conditions are expected to continue until March 2025.
