Airbus agrees to settle bribery cases

A settlement would allow Airbus to move past the long-running probe at a time when Boeing is struggling with the grounding of its 737 Max aircraft following two deadly crashes.

LONDON: Airbus SE said it has reached an agreement in principle with authorities in the United Kingdom, France and the United States to settle bribery allegations that have shadowed the European airplane manufacturer for years.

The accords could cost Airbus in the range of US$3bil, according to a person familiar with the matter. They remain subject to approval by courts in the three countries, as well as the US regulator, Airbus said in a statement on Tuesday, following reports by Bloomberg News and other media.
