BANGKOK: Thailand’s billionaires have been told it’s their civic duty to fight the Covid-19 economic crash, which threatens to exacerbate a climb in poverty over recent years.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha asked the 20 richest Thais to use their money and organisations to develop new projects that reach all parts of the country. He told the group – only some of whom have self-identified – that he didn’t want donations. The responses from the magnates thus far are modest compared with the scale of the economic damage.
