AAX carries 880,265 passengers in 2Q24

AAX said it recorded an available seat per kilometre capacity of 4.4 billion in 2Q24.

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) carried 880,265 passengers in the second quarter of 2024 (2Q24), surging 42% year-on-year (y-o-y) while surpassing the 25% y-o-y growth in its available seat per kilometre (ASK) capacity.

In a statement, AAX said it recorded an ASK capacity of 4.4 billion in 2Q24 against 3.5 billion in the corresponding period last year, as the company ramped up over the past 12 months to serve growing demand by reactivating aircraft to support its expanding network.

“The passenger load factor (PLF) charted a robust 83%, up by seven percentage points y-o-y, buoyed by peak spring travel seasons in key markets and the Eid holiday period during the quarter under review.

“In terms of network, AAX resumed operations to Xi’an in April, reinforcing its presence in this core market to five destinations including Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shanghai.”

During the quarter under review, AAX said it had increased its flight frequencies between Kuala Lumpur and Bali to 14 times per week from nine times previously.

“The company’s associate, AirAsia X Thailand continued to deliver a solid PLF of 84% in 2Q24, increasing by six percentage points y-o-y.

“This growth was driven by a 17% y-o-y growth in the number of passengers carried for the quarter to 362,596 passengers, outperforming a 3% y-o-y growth in ASK capacity of 1.87 billion in 2Q24,” it said.
