A month-long photo exhibition The Alhambra, Paradise On Earth, a collaboration between the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) and the Embassy of Spain in Malaysia, is the latest attraction at the museum.
It celebrates the grandeur of the Alhambra, the most refined expression of the Nasrid kingdom and an icon of Spanish historical-artistic heritage and of humanity.
The photo exhibition, now showing at the IAMM's Inverted Dome Open Space Gallery, features over 60 historical and recent photos and supported by multimedia videos that captivate the overwhelming beauty of the Alhambra and its gardens of the Generalife, according to a statement by the embassy.
"Every inch of this impressive construction is a carefully calculated oasis, conveying the idea of a paradisiacal garden on earth.
"From the grace of the Generalife gardens to the forest of elegant columns and Nasrid spires of the Patio de los Leones, you'll be able to admire the beauty of this magnificent monument that was declared a Spanish National Monument in 1870 and has been included in the Unesco World’s Cultural Heritage list since 1984,” said the statement.
Through a series of photographs, the exhibition will take visitors on a journey that resembles the one taken by the millions to the Alhambra, the most visited monument in Spain.
"You will be transported to the Paradise on Earth and will be able to enjoy the serene architecture reflected in the pond of the Cortyard of the Myrtles, the sound of fountains and water channels on the ground, and the careful selection of plants that make up the Generalife gardens," read the exhibition notes.
The Alhambra, Paradise On Earth photo exhibition, which ends on Aug 6, will include the screening of the film The Builders Of The Alhambra on July 8 at 3 pm.
The IAMM is also currently showing the exhibition Orientalist Paintings: Mirror or Mirage? in its main galleries.
