Producer Datuk Yusof Haslam said he’s at peace with Syamsul Yusof and Puteri Sarah’s decision to divorce amicably.

This, he hoped, would end the tempestuous relationship between his son and daughter-in-law, and let them start a new chapter with their respective lives hereon.

At the same time, the producer said that he and his wife – Datin Patimah Ismail – are sad that the couple’s marriage is over, but they are hopeful the relationship formed over the years will not break.

“What’s done is done,” the 69-year-old told mStar, The Star’s Malay-language portal.

“Of course, my wife and I are sad that the marriage built over 10 years is over due to one mistake. But we can’t go back ... we just have to let it go.

“We only hope for the best for Puteri Sarah and she will remain as our daughter-in-law. And our relationship with her parents is also good.”

Both Syamsul and Puteri Sarah had reached an agreement to dissolve their marriage amicably and peacefully, after meeting for Ramadan breaking fast on Sunday (April 9).

The two of them agreed that this amicable solution meant they don’t have to come off the process as enemies, which would jeopardise the happiness of their two young children.

Bernama quoted Puteri Sarah on Monday: "Yesterday, we met and discussed...we reached an agreement and all the terms and conditions have been agreed upon.

“Alhamdulilah, maybe due to the blessed Ramadan. We want to continue living calmly and do not want to be hostile and hold grudges in our hearts.”

Meanwhile Syamsul said that this amicable solution was due to the prayers of his loved ones and his parents.

However, Yusof said he was not privy to their Sunday’s meeting but is grateful they got together to sort out their problems.

“It’s good they met in private instead of having a shouting match at the the court.

“At least this way, they found a solution and even if that solution grieves our heart, we will accept it.

“We do not know what Puteri Sarah went through but now she has a choice in determining her future. That is her right. What she knows is she no longer wants to be Syamsul’s wife.”

On Monday, the Lower Syariah Court Wilayah Persekutuan has fixed April 18 for the divorce pronouncement of actor-director Syamsul Yusof on his first wife actress Puteri Sarah.

Syamsul and Puteri Sarah arrived in court to hear the report of the Reconciliation Committee (JKP), but this matter was postponed due to the new development.

The Syarie judge fixed the date after Puteri Sarah’s lawyer informed the court that the couple had reached an agreement to dissolve their marriage amicably and peacefully.

Her lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, later told the media that the terms of the settlement would be announced on April 18.

"...We will record what can be recorded in this court including hadanah (custody), child support, mutaah (consolatory gift), nusyuz (disobedience) and conjugal property. It covers related issues before and after the divorce," said Akberdin, as reported by Bernama.
