Hong Kong actor Roger Kwok and former TVB star Cindy Au shocked the entertainment scene on May 2 when they announced their divorce after 18 years of marriage.
In a joint statement, the former celebrity couple revealed they have been separated for two years and decided to divorce after careful consideration and extensive discussion.
According to reports, Kwok, 59, owns properties worth a whopping HK$90mil (RM54.6mil) in various areas around Hong Kong – including in Sai Kung, Hung Hom, Mong Kok, Taikoo Shing and Tsuen Wan.
Interestingly, his ex-wife Au, 44, chose to have her name excluded from all of these assets.
The reason?
She wanted to "avoid complications and unnecessary hassle", according to Dimsum Daily.
The report added that Kwok and Au's two children also don't have their names associated with the properties as Kwok believes he should "contribute his wealth for the greater good" before his passing, a decision Au fully supports.
Kwok and Au exchanged vows in 2006 after a seven-year courtship. They share a 16-year-old son, Brad, and a 12-year-old daughter, Blair.
Kwok told Hong Kong media in 2019 that he once considered divorce after having constant arguments with Au over how they should raise their kids.
However, the pair managed to fix their marriage by spending more time together, strengthening their belief in religion and reaching a mutual agreement on the academic expectations of their children.
