Fans may have been lonely since the day they went away, but not any more.
Norwegian pop duo M2M have reunited after 22 years. The singers, formed by childhood friends Marit Larsen and Marion Raven, released an acoustic rendition of their hit song The Day You Went Away (2000) on a new M2M Instagram account.
The clip was posted on Sept 22 at exactly 9.25am Oslo time, a nod to the lyrics “I remember date and time/September 22nd, Sunday, 25 after nine.”
In it, Larsen, 41, plays the guitar and sings alongside Raven, 40. The clip was captioned: “Let’s give this story a better ending.”
The following day, the duo alluded to a reunion with a picture of themselves, which was captioned: “Our hearts are so full. Thank you. We are so excited about what’s to come.”
Their manager confirmed news of M2M’s reunion to Norwegian news outlets, 22 years after the duo went their separate ways in 2002.
Larsen and Raven, who met in a small town outside Oslo when they were five and bonded over a shared love of music and performing, released a children’s record together in 1994 and landed a worldwide deal at Atlantic Records in 1998.
Known for writing their own music, they scored hits like Don’t Say You Love Me (1999) and Pretty Boy (2000). Their debut album, Shades Of Purple (2000), sold more than 1.5 million units worldwide.
But success was short-lived, as their second album, The Big Room (2001), did not perform as well commercially. The duo split up amicably soon after.
Both pursued solo careers, with Larsen focusing on pop and folk music while Raven pivoted to rock.
M2M’s reunion comes amid news of multiple bands doing the same. Beloved rock groups Oasis and Linkin Park are among the musical acts that are regrouping after years of silence. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
