Negri Sembilan government has launched a unit to coordinate all rescue efforts in the event of a disaster in the state.

Members of the Negri Sembilan Command Centre (Nescom) come from all government and rescue agencies and it will be based at Rumah JKR at the Lake Gardens, Seremban.

Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, during the launch of Nescom, said the unit would coordinate all information and logistics-related matters which would be managed by the state secretary’s office.

Apart from the state Disaster Management Committee, the unit’s members will come from the police, Civil Defence, Fire and Rescue Department, Drainage and Irrigation Department, Public Works Department, Minerals and Geo-Science Department and Meteorological Department.

“Nescom will, among other things, have data such as the water level of rivers during downpours, landslides, road conditions and weather forecasts so that all agencies are prepared to face any natural disaster.

“The state government had allocated RM350,000 to upgrade the Nescom office, which was previously the state Secretariat Club-house and the project was completed last December,” he said.

Aminuddin said the decision to set up Nescom was made after massive floods at the end of 2021 and early 2022 which hit several areas and caused much destruction to private property and infrastructure.

“Some areas were completely cut off and were not accessible by road, while there were also places which did not have Internet connection as the electricity supply at a telecommunication stations was disrupted,” he said.

He added that Nescom would complement the role of the JKR’s BiGBen or Disaster Operations Room to channel information during a disaster.

At the event, Aminuddin handed over three boats worth RM110,000 to the Fire and Rescue Department for rescue missions.

The boats have been sent to Seremban, Rembau and Jempol.
