THE upgrading of the SS20 Northern Zone Park in Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya in Selangor, has been completed at a cost of RM390,000.
The project by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) saw the refurbishment of the children’s playground, exercise equipment, badminton and basketball courts as well as the addition of a 350m jogging track.
New amenities were also added including extra dustbins, stairs, tables and benches as well as a wheelchair-friendly entry point.
The upgraded field will benefit some 200 households, said SS20 Residents Association (Northern Zone) secretary Datin Nursiah Sulaiman.
She said SS20/6 residents had been using the upgraded park since work was completed last December.
“Previously, residents wanting to exercise had to walk on the road, which was not safe. They can now exercise safely on the new jogging track.
“The installation of a ramp at the entrance will ensure easy accessibility for the disabled,” she said, adding that the park was a popular meeting point.
“It is a place where we can strengthen our relationship with neighbours,” said Nursiah when visiting the park with Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin and SS20 RA members.Having lived in the area for 42 years, Nursiah said she had noticed vast improvements.
“In the past, the flooring and walking trails were not in good condition and were dangerous for children.”
She said the project, which took five months to complete, also involved repairing and levelling the field.
The SS20 RA, she added, was also in discussion with the nearby SMK Damansara Utama to enable its students to use the park.
Jamaliah said the project was delayed for a month due to raw material supply issues.
“I hope the upgraded facilities will encourage more people to come out and exercise,” she said.
She added that the parks in the southern and central zones of SS20 were updated in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
