Councillor seeking solution to flood issue in PJ’s Section 17

Cleaning efforts going on at the car porch of a house on Jalan 17/4 which was flooded after Friday’s downpour.

A SHORT downpour resulted in water overflowing from drains into several houses in Section 17, Petaling Jaya.

Student Bryan Xavier, 22, who lives in Jalan 17/3, said heavy rain on Friday afternoon caused ankle-deep water to flood his car porch and living area.

He said this had been happening for the past three years whenever there was continuous downpours.

Xavier said Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) should widen the drains to put a stop to the flood problem.

Hira Lal Syangtan, 34, who also lives in Jalan 17/3, said his living room was flooded with ankle-deep water.

“We have to wash the living room and car porch frequently because of floods,” he said.

MBPJ councillor Chang She-Yun said several residential drains in Jalan 17/3, Jalan 17/21I and Jalan 17/21H overflowed on Friday.

“I will raise this matter with MBPJ Engineering Department’s drainage unit this week to determine the causes and find a solution,” she added.
